ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THURSDAY 30th JULY 2015

1).Navjivan Vadil Kendra is privileged to have the Representative – Mr John Purnell of the National Awards Committee who is present here as our guest. We welcome him.  He will present us the certificate signed by the Queen for the QAVS award together with a domed glass crystal.  The certificate and the Dome will be passed around later on so that all members can see the same.

2). We thank Manishaben for giving several health tips and also Jayesh Shah for conducting the warm up Yoga today.

3). After lunch today there will be the presentation ceremony of the Award and later on we will have celebrate with ras/garba and poems etc.

After lunch there was an official ceremony when our President – Baburai Shah, Hon. Secretary – Jayantbhai Doshi and Mr John Purnell came on the stage.  Baburai Shah gave a speech describing how the Award was informed to us.  He also praised the members and volunteers who have been instrumental in achievement of the award.  Mr. John Purnell, who is the Deputy Lieutenant for Harrow then spoke on how the awards are chosen.  He stated that the Award is for excellency in voluntary work and that is what Kendra should be proud of.  Further according to him ours was the only award in London for Voluntary Services.  He praised the work done by us as he had come early to watch our Yoga session, too.  He wished that we continue to do the good work for elderly in our society and win more awards.
He presented the Crystal glass with the Queen’s crown to Baburai and the Certificate signed by the Queen to Jayantbhai.  Jayantbhai then gave a vote of thanks.

After this Jasuben Sheth and Nimaben Kakad both recited beautiful poems befitting the Kendra’s achievement and praising all members and volunteers for their hard work.  This was followed by Garbas.

4) On Tuesday – 4th August we have organised an open bus tour of London on Golden Tours open-top bus for a 3 hour guided tour of famous landmarks.  The cost of the tour is half the usual price - £9.50. If you want to join in the tour, please give your names to Ellaben Shah.

5). Next Thursday – 6th August we will have a talk by Nitin Mehta on Vegetarianism.

6). We have organised a mid-Summer Musical Programme on Thurs -13th Aug.  This will be a full day musical programme with sitting lunch and there will be no Yoga on that day.  The programme will start at 11.00 am and as usual members will have to pay £1 to register in order to monitor the number of people attending and for catering purposes. Guests are welcome – charge £15.  Please collect your tickets from Main Desk.  On this day we will have a grand celebration for our achievement of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services.  A special musical band has been invited and they have promised to give memorable music befitting our celebrations for the day.

7). On Tuesday – 18th Aug, we have arranged a day trip to South-end-on Sea.  The coach will depart from the Kenton Library at 8.00 am and leave from South-end-on Sea at 5.00 pm.  Cost for members and members grand-children (under12) will be £10 and £15 for guests.  Please give your names to Ellaben Shah.

8)  .NVK has made a deal whereby our members, their families, friends and anyone they can talk to, can join in a scheme whereby any shopping done at SAINSBURY’S by registered cardholders will mean NVK will get 4% on the gross amount of the shopping. (So if in one year all our members/friends etc do £100000 worth of shopping under the scheme than NVK will get £4000) . We request all to support this scheme so that Kendra will benefit at no expense to anyone who joins the scheme.  Full details have been sent by email to all members. 9). Everyone above the age of 60 and over who live in the London Borough can now apply to get Oyster Photocard, which is temporary until the Freedom Pass is obtained.  However this card has the same privileges as the Freedom Pass.  We thank Dhanvantbhai Damani for passing on this information to us.

10). Everyone, including guests, is requested to sign in the Register at the Entrance Table. Guests are requested to obtain their Pass.
