5. In the afternoon on Thursday 28 November we had a talk on Bowel Cancer by Nazia Ali's team from Brent Health Matters in collaboration with St. Marks Hospital.

Kusumben Punater welcomed and introduced the team and Prafulbhai Shah and Vinodbhai Parekh thanked the team for a very informative and educative talk.

As usual for such informative and educative  programmes, many members stayed behind to attend the Seminar.  This was the second Seminar presented and arranged by Nazia Ali.

The programme started with Nazia Ali giving a brief talk on what is bowel cancer with the aid of projection slides.  She gave some of the symptoms to watch out for.  The NHS screening of Bowel Cancer is given to all residents every 2 years from the ages 50 to 74.  A Kit is posted to all qualified persons to their addresses.  Nazia Ali demonstrated how to use this kit at home and return to the NHS.

She also stated that anyone over 74 years of age can have a self referral by phoning 0800 7076060 if they had any symptoms and feel that they needed to have this screening.

There was a Question and Answer session in which some members took part.

The programme was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. A Vote of Thanks to Nazia Ali and Brent Health Awareness, and St. Marks Hospital was given by Prafulbhai Shah.

6. Next Thursday's afternoon programme is Antakshri.

7. On the 5 December, we will be inviting comments from members. We will be putting out the comments box in the hall, where it was laid out last month. we welcome your comments.

8. Members were asked to read their emails carefully and properly. I was brought to our attention that although a correction to the timing of Yoga was corrected in the announcement of Thursday 21 November some members did not picked up the corrected time and thought that the Yoga was at a later time.

9. Members were asked to be mindful and aware of not spreading rumours and gossip about members special needs (disability). it was stressed that disability is not visible, so one should not judge another member on appearances. If members have any concerns about other members special needs they should speak to the Secretary or the President. After all, NVK has incorporated the disability symbol on membership cards based on the disabled badges issued by the UK government. This announcement was made because Naynaben Shah brought to our attention a rumour circulating about her disability. This was done with Naynaben's permission.
